Mint Candy

A Megaman Classic fanfic by Neo Qwerty

Roll, despite being a robot and having a simple AI, was amused at her brother. Not the one that saved the world, but the runaway who was hiding away from the world most of the year, with few exceptions. This was the only time he was actually docile and enclined to follow orders, but she still didn't know why, couldn't deduce it all on her own.

But it was still amusing to watch him, curled up on the couch, clutching a bag of candy to his chest like she'd steal it back from him, throwing wary looks at her as she carefully stitched his old yellow scarf's frayed ends back together.

"Blues, are you even supposed to eat candy?"

He paused, for only a second, and lifted his right shoulder in a half-hearted shrug, going back to picking at the treats and stuffing more hard candy in his mouth.

"Oh, why do you have to pick only some…?"

She was curious, and leaned forward when he stuck out his tongue, a small green-striped white candy still intact.

"Mint. Like it."

And he returned to robbing the bag of the minty candies, reducing them to small fragments in a matter of minutes.

"But isn't sugar bad for us?"

"Who cares? I'm bad as it is."

That was true. She'd seen him drift on and offline when he came by last year…

"But it's going to make it even worse."

"But I like the taste, so like I said, who cares?"

"I care, brother."

"Just shut up."

She lowered her eyes and returned to her near-impossible task, and didn't look up when he sat up from the couch, the furniture creaking in relief and his boots heavy on the wooden floor. She only looked up when his steps brought him right in front of her, and a small fish-shaped candy was waved under her nose.

"Here. Try that."

She plucked it out of his red fingers, and popped it in her mouth, batting at it warily with her tongue and running an analysis on its composants.

"…There's sugar in it."

"Not enough to clog up anything. At the amount I ate, if I don't need a purge right now? You're definitely safe."

Roll shook her head, blonde strands flying, and she smirked at Blues.

"And you bother eating that when it's a lot better just to get an E-can?"

Blues shook his head and sat back down on the couch, carefully, crunching down more little minty sugar balls, and Roll took that as a signal to finish repairing Blues' possession.

"I just like the taste."

"You're being silly…"

He smirked back at her, leaning forward and resting his forearms on his knees, quirking an eyebrow up.

"And this isn't silly? I keep coming back here like a thief, on the same day, at about the same hour."

"It's silly, but I'm not going to complain about this. You might not believe me… but we miss you."

Blues fell back into silence, ruffling through the bag, and Roll likewise became quiet, threading the needle through the soft yellow material.
